At Black Hound Books, we believe every story deserves to be told, and told well! While writing can be an incredible journey, we know from experience that it’s not always an easy one. From battling writer’s block to wondering if your manuscript is ready to publish, the process can feel overwhelming when you don’t have support.
That’s where we come in! We specialize in manuscript reviews and editing services for both adult fiction and children's books. Our mission is to help authors perfect their stories and gain the confidence they need to share them with the world. Kiersten Roy
Adult/YA Fiction Specialist
Kiersten Roy brings both expertise and heart to Black Hound Books as our Adult Fiction Specialist. At Western Kentucky University she majored in Middle Grades Education, with a specialization in History and English Language Arts, combining her love for stories with the skills to guide young writers and now authors through the writing process. As a former middle school English Language Arts teacher, Kiersten has seen it all: papers that made her laugh, made her cry, and occasionally made her question sanity. That experience makes her the ultimate manuscript guide as she knows how to help a story reach its full potential through feedback that’s both constructive and encouraging. When you work with her, you don’t just get a sharp editorial eye, you also gain a number one fan who is the ultimate hype-woman, cheering you on as your story comes to life.

Children's Book Specialist
J.T. Roy is our Children’s Book Specialist who made his publishing debut in 2025 with Millie Bananas Can’t Sleep, a children’s book that was created while making up bedtime stories for his daughter. Before submitting his manuscript to publishers, J.T. sought out a professional manuscript review which gave him valuable feedback and the confidence he needed to make his book a success. That experience encouraged him to help other authors with feedback and support so they can confidently bring their stories to life too. He loves children’s books because they make him feel like a kid and gives him a chance to spend quality, distraction-free time with his daughter. When he’s not writing about the adventures of Millie Bananas or helping other authors, you can find J.T. hiking with family and friends, cooking, or relaxing in the sun with his dog, Topper. test test test test
Our Name
Our Name
The name, Black Hound Books, was inspired by our dog, Topper. He’s an old, lazy black and tan hound-lab mix who loves nothing more than cuddling up with us on the couch when we read. Like Topper, Black Hound Books is about having a loyal partner by your side through every chapter of your writing journey.
